Music Room Dedication

DSC_0506On June 5, at 10:00 am, St. Joseph Catholic School dedicated its Music Room in honor of Steve Azar’s St. Cecilia Foundation and the Delta Soul Committee. After principal Paul Artman welcomed all of the guest, which included founders of the St. Cecilia Foundation, Steve (’82) and Gwen Azar, the Delta Soul Committee Chairs, Beth Mansour & Esther Virden, various sponsors of the Delta Soul Event, celebrity guests, alumni and friends, Rev. Bill Henry blessed the music room through prayer.  Through the generous donations of Steve Azar’s St. Cecilia Foundation, the music and arts programs at both St. Joseph Catholic High School and Our Lady of Lourdes have flourished and many accomplishments have been attained, including the following:

  • GreenvilleArts Council Merit of Excellence and several age division awards 2nd- 12th grade for the annual Student Art Exhibit.
  • The creation of full music curriculum, including choir, sacred music, piano, and band
  • First Place Mississippi High School Film Competition for two consecutive years
  • The creation of a digital video department and curriculum
  • Two Best of Show in the Student Invitational Art Show two years
  • GreenvilleArts Council Merit of Achievement
  • Two Judges Choice Awards in the Student Invitation Art Show
  • Best in Show Chicot County, Arkansas, Art Competition
  • Official Selection of a Short Film by the New York All American High School Film Festival
  • Two additional student films were chosen for showing at the All American Film Festival
  • The instituting of a Pep Band
  • First, Second, Third, and Honorable Mention Awards at the Leland FrogFest Youth Competition for two consecutive years
  • Statewide Silver Key Award in watercolor art
  • Greenville Arts Council’s Honors Its Own Volunteer Award
  • Five students earned the Broadcom Masters Program Award for innovation
  • Winner of the Art Portfolio Competition at the prestigious Delta State School of Art
  • The establishment of St. Joseph Wi-Fi Webcasts and student learning to support this effort
  • The publishing of a community oriented coffee table book through the Wide Angle Learning Project
  • Two Regional Scholastic Art Awards
  • St. Joseph Students chosen to show in the B.B. King Museum exhibition: Tune into Black History”
  • Invitations to participate in various National and International Film Festivals
  • Local and State Winner for “Woodsie Owl” art contest (through Alice Bell Garden Club
  • Handbells for Lourdes music classes
  • Garage Band App for iPads for music classes
