EVENT TO FEATURE OLYMPIAN AND GOLD MEDALIST TRENT DIMAS ALONG WITH STEVE AZAR

OlympicGREENVILLE, MS – The spirit of the Olympic Movement will roll into Greenville as the Hodding Carter Memorial Y partners with the Delta Soul Celebrity Golf and Charity Event in celebration of Olympic Day.

This FREE Olympic Day celebration will take place from 9:00 – 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 3 at the JD Rushing Gymnastics and Childcare facility at the Y.  Olympic Gymnast and Gold Medalist, Trent Dimas, will kick off the event by sharing stories of his Olympic Games’ experience.  Both Dimas and Azar are committed to leading healthy lifestyles and will share tips on healthy cooking, the importance of staying physically fit and why goal-setting, motivation and dedication are important life-long traits for both athletes, performers and, indeed, for everyone!

“When we received notification that Trent was going to be with us again this year for our Delta Soul event, we immediately reached out to the Y to look at collaborating to offer an event like this to the youth of our community,” states Steve Azar, organizer and founder of the Delta Soul Celebrity Golf and Charity event and of the Steve Azar St. Cecilia Foundation.  The foundation supports many worthy organizations throughout the Delta region and beyond focusing on the arts, children and education.  “Physical fitness and healthy eating has always been important to me,” continues Steve.  “So, this is the perfect opportunity to have Trent here to help inspire and teach our community’s youth about healthy living as well as to encourage the next Olympic athlete!”

The Y was the perfect venue for hosting this Olympic Day event with an accomplished gymnastics program and a focus on helping our community become healthier in spirit, mind and body.  “We are thrilled to be able to host both Steve and Trent for Olympic Day,” comments Bob Williams, Chief Executive Officer of the Y.  “It’s through collaborations like these that allow us to really reach out into our community and change lives for the better!”

The Y’s Olympic Day event is one of more than 700 events taking place nationwide this June.  The events, designed to engage youth and promote ideals of the Olympic movement, feature athlete appearances, family-friendly activities and interactive learning experiences.
